The Blacksmith Sun is a creative audio visual project centred around the words of a poet. The music was composed and recorded at Riversong Music by Australian artists Aaron Magee, Scott Bird and Andrew Beck. There were no rules, genres or boxes to inhibit the process. It was purely an artistic endeavour to serve the words which became the songs.
The Blacksmith Sun is a journeyman’s story, observational, reflective - at times raw and vulnerable. The album was intentionally made to be listened to from beginning to end and in so doing it charts milestone moments in a life. Some of these moments are deeply personal, others are experienced as an observer.
The Blacksmith Sun was created as a concept album and tilts its hat humbly toward the giants from the past. The album cover was illustrated by renowned Australian tattoo artist Trevor Bennett and is his only self-portrait. It was hand drawn not long before his passing in 2023 and the album is dedicated to his memory. All supporting environmental art and visual interpretations have been produced by Trudi Bird, created on country in ‘The Valley’, a native flora and fauna sanctuary in lutruwita. Simply stated, it is art for arts’ sake, made by fans of music, words and the natural world.
